PRACE Council elects new Chair and Vice-Chair

At the 44th PRACE Council Meeting on 8 June 2022 – which was held in hybrid mode – the PRACE Members elected a new Chair and Vice-Chair. The new incumbents will fulfil their mandates for two years.

Dr Constantia Alexandrou, Professor at the Physics Department of the University of Cyprus, Professor at The Cyprus Institute and Director of the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC) which is the PRACE partner since 2010 for Cyprus, and who had been PRACE Council delegate for Cyprus since 2008 took over from Dr Janne Ignatius, Adjunct Professor and Programme Director at CSC – IT Center for Science Ltd., as Council Chair.
Dr Norbert Meyer, Director of Data Processing Technologies Division at the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC), member of ESFRI DIGIT, EuroHPC INFRAG and e-IRG group of experts, and PRACE delegate for Poland, was elected as the new Vice-Chair.

 

 

It is a great honour for me to have been elected Chair of the Council of PRACE, an organisation with a truly European vision and mission for HPC.          I am fully committed to work with all PRACE members to continuing the success of PRACE in advancing computational science and engineering across Europe. We will collaborate closely with the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking to strengthen the European HPC ecosystem, providing Europe’s scientists in academia and industry the HPC resources, training and support they need for realising cutting-edge research and innovation.,” said Constantia Alexandrou.

The PRACE Council, the highest decision-making body in PRACE, welcomes its new leadership.
