Members categories

PRACE welcomes organisations (we call these members institutional) as well as natural persons (we call these members individual) as members of the Association. There are then several categories for institutional members, depending on their situation and purpose of becoming a member.

Large & Small Members

Generally, organisations  join PRACE for their own purpose. These organisations will be labeled Large Members by default, which is associated with a baseline membership fee, see below.  Organisations might however actively request to be recognized as Small Members and claim the right to pay a smaller membership fee according to a criteria set by the Assembly of the Members of PRACE, see also further below.

Lead & Associated Members

Some organisations may want to join PRACE together, either because there is a larger umbrella facilitating this (typically ministerial support structuring this grouped membership) or because they have a converging interest, possibly financial, to join PRACE together. One of the organisations of the group is taking the role of Lead Member which will pay a larger membership fee than if it would join PRACE for its own purpose. The other organisations of the group would join PRACE as Associated Members referring to the corresponding Lead Member (which shall validate the association), still becoming a full member of PRACE albeit without paying a membership fee

It is important to note that PRACE does not specify the way the group of organisations must be structured or the nature of the grouping, nor expects all the members of a given group to have the same positions when it comes to take decisions in the Assembly of Members. PRACE only anticipates that a Lead Member will bring Associated Members with it, the number of Associated Member per Lead Member being limited to ten (10).

Individual Members

These are natural persons willing to support PRACE, influence the implementation of its mission and its means of action. A specific membership fee is defined for this category of members, possibly with some specific individual situations justifying a different fee level.

Members rights and obligations and membership fees

Rights and obligations of members are defined formally in the Chapter III of the PRACE Statutes, see the Mission and Governance for more information and access to the text of the Statutes. Also, what the membership enables the members to benefit is covered in the Member Benefits pages.

The most significant obligation of the members is the payment of an annual membership fee. This is set on a yearly basis by the Assembly of the Members. The amounts for the year 2026 have been set as follows:

Member CategoryYearly FeeCondition
Lead Member € 50 000,00
Large Member € 15 000,00
Small Member € 3 000,00Must demonstrate annual budget < € 15 million
Associated Member € –Must have been validated by a Lead Member
Individual Member € 75,00
Student or Job Seeker € –Must demonstrate their claimed situation

Application Process

Candidate members are kindly requested to fill in an application form:

and send it to director[at]prace-ri.eu.

The Executive Board of PRACE will then analyse the application against the admissibility criteria documented in Art.6 of the PRACE Statutes, and possibly contact the candidate member to query clarification or obtain additional documentation. On the basis of the analysis, the new membership is then approved by the PRACE Council. The candidate is notified accordingly (with motivation in case the given member is not admissible).

The whole process takes up to 2 calendar months. The new member will be invited to pay a membership fee prorated to the number of remaining days between the notification of admission and the end of the ongoing calendar year.
