Scientific and Innovation Case

The PRACE Scientific and Innovation Case (SIC) is a strategic initiative outlining how high-performance computing (HPC) drives European research, competitiveness, and solutions to societal challenges.

It updates traditional HPC simulations to include AI, machine learning, and quantum computing, providing evidence-based recommendations for future infrastructure investments.

Purpose

To demonstrate the high impact of HPC on scientific discovery and industrial innovation, ensuring Europe’s place in global research.

Scope

Covers areas such as life sciences, earth sciences, material research, and engineering, while expanding into new fields like social sciences and humanities.

Evolution

Moves beyond traditional simulation, incorporating emerging trends like artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and quantum computing (QC) to address complex, data-intensive challenges.

Strategic Impact

Informs policymakers and stakeholders on future needs to maintain European competitiveness and address societal challenges.

Target Audience

It serves as a guide for researchers, industrial users, and funding bodies to understand the necessity of investing in advanced computing infrastructure.
