PRACE – The European HPC Infrastructure at ISC 2018

PRACE offered a diverse programme to the visitors of the PRACE booth at the ISC 2018 exhibition. This programme included mini-presentations such as an overview of PRACE industrial access and a presentation of the DEEP project in which several PRACE Members are involved. For the second time, PRACE was one of the sponsors of the STEM Students Tours and Gala and the PRACE Pre Commercial Procurement project presented its first features and experiences. For the second time EXDCI had its dedicated booth space.

Serge Bogaerts, Managing Director of PRACE opened the PRACE booth with a welcome talk during the Opening Gala of the ISC exhibition on Monday 26 June. Over the exhibition days, more than 300 visitors visited the PRACE booth. The booth team had interesting talks with the visitors and explained to them various PRACE activities such as Peer Review and the wide range of Training possibilities.

On Tuesday afternoon, PRACE was delighted to invite the partners of the Pre Commercial Procurement project to celebrate the successful end of their work on “Whole-System Design for Energy Efficient HPC in order to obtain R&D services”. The results of this work could be used to help future PRACE HPC systems to become more energy efficient. The outcome of the work and the first experiences of the three involved vendors with the PCP project, was presented in a forum on Wednesday afternoon.

The PRACE booth team was happy to welcome the STEM Student Tours on Wednesday afternoon. Stelios Erotokritou provided the students with a brief and interesting introduction about PRACE and available PRACE Training possibilities. The Gala on the same evening allowed PRACE – as one of the sponsors, to interact with the STEM students and to offer them more detailed information about PRACE Training.
