Dr. Maria Ramalho took appointment as PRACE Managing Director

PRACE Research Infrastructure engages staff to fulfill its mission and offer high-quality services to European researchers.

PRACE Research Infrastructure appointed Dr. Maria Ramalho as Managing Director of the Association with office in Brussels, Belgium. Dr. Ramalho, is an expert in the field of telecommunication networks and a skilled project coordinator.

“We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Ramalho as PRACE’s Managing Director. Her experience in both public and private sectors will bring plausible benefits to the enhancement of the PRACE Research Infrastructure”, expressed Prof. Achim Bachem, chair of the PRACE Council.

Since her first professional experience as a researcher, Dr. Ramalho has held different positions, in the industrial and academic sectors as well as at the European Commission. During 6 years (2004-2010), she was in charge of the administration of projects of the 6th (FP6) and 7th (FP7) Framework Programmes. As scientific officer, she participated in policy actions related to ICT-based research infrastructures, in particular those listed in the roadmap of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures. Since 2010, she was the editor of the Vision document for Supercomputing in Europe in 2020, as part of her professional duties at Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH, one of the partners of the Gauss Centre for Supercomputing alliance in Germany.

“As PRACE Managing Director, my first objective is to strengthen the team who will coordinate and extend the high-quality services that the PRACE Research Infrastructure provides in Europe”, said Maria Ramalho.

PRACE AISBL is currently recruiting several job profiles, such as officers dedicated to peer review exercises, financial, legal and communication duties. The staff will be based in Brussels where the Association has its seat.
