BIG HPC-AI-QC Hackathon by QuantX

11 March 2023 @ 08:00 - 14 March 2023 @ 17:00
The BIG QC-AI-HPC Hackathon by QuantX, the first-of-a-kind competition, aims to gather the whole value chain of Artificial Intelligence, Quantum and High Performance Computing to demonstrate the ability of hybrid technology to address real-life challenges. During the event, the business world, represented by industrial and financial companies, VC/PE investors, and consulting groups, will join forces with the scientific computing specialists from academia, leading quantum providers, and HPC centres to approach a set of longstanding problems from different domains: chemistry, machine learning, optimization, numerical simulations, to name a few. Through establishing a stage for collaborative problem solving, the BIG QC-AI-HPC Hackathon will help the participants to investigate the real impact of their work, today’s viability of hybrid solutions, existing business interest, and efforts to be done in the coming years. The BIG QC-AI-HPC Hackathon is organized under the high patronage of Neil Abroug – the Head of the French National Quantum Strategy. It is supported by PRACE – the Partnership for Advance Computing in Europe, GENCI – the French research infrastructure in charge of implementing national policy in HPC, AI and QC, Boston Consulting Group – a global consulting firm that partners with leaders in business and society to tackle their most important challenges, and Le Lab Quantique – Paris-based think tank and network of bottom-up initiatives promoting quantum technologies.

The BIG HPC-AI-QC Hackathon by QuantX is organised in collaboration with
  • PRACE – Partnership for Advance Computing in Europe
  • GENCI – French research infrastructure in charge of implementing the national policy in HPC, AI and QC
  • Boston Consulting Group (BCG) – global consulting firm that partners with leaders in business and society
  • Le Lab Quantique – Paris-based think tank and network of bottom-up initiatives promoting quantum technologies
with the support of Neil Abroug, Head of the French National Quantum Strategy. This Hackathon aims to gather in Paris leading players of the international Quantum Computing, HPC and AI ecosystems (e.g. 10 industrial companies, 10 Q hardware and software providers, 5 HPC centres, 10 VC/PEs and consulting groups, representatives of academia and government) to accelerate the transfer of competencies and advance hybrid HPC-AI-QC solutions and their practical application. The competition is planned in 2 phases: 1. Technical Phase 11-12 March 2023 @ BCG (24-26 Rue Saint-Dominique, 75007 Paris, France) Industrial companies provide the use-cases covering various application domains (e.g. Chemistry, ML, Optimisation, Finance, Numerical Simulations). Technical teams of students and engineers solve the use-cases with the help of quantum hardware, software providers, and big HPC centres, which guarantee access to the platforms and software tools. At the end of the technical phase, the best technical solutions are selected for phase two of the competition by the international jury of expert. 2. Business Phase 13-14 March 2023 @ BCG (24-26 Rue Saint-Dominique, 75007 Paris, France) The business teams of VC/PE investors and consulting groups develop the strategy to integrate the technical solutions in the businesses of the industrial companies – use-case owners, and challenge the solutions with respect to different market criteria, reproducing the decision-making cycle of industrial R&D. The 2-day technical phase of the Hackathon requires in-person presence of the participating teams in Paris (11-12 March 2023). The in-person presence of the technical teams during the business phase is optional. The award ceremony in the presence of officials from the French government and key-players of international Quantum and HPC ecosystem following by the cocktail party, will be held on 14 March 2023, at 19:00 CET @ BCG. All the public health measures related to the COVID will be enforced. The travel and accommodation expenses are not covered by the organisers. The number of participants is limited. If you are a student and you would like to participate in person in the Technical Phase of Hackathon, please fill the survey. Nearer to the event, we will publish a link for non-participating viewers.
