PRACE wrap up a fascinating week at SC18

PRACE was pleased to be part of the 30th edition of the International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis (SC18), in Dallas, Texas from 12 to 15 November 2018.

Serge Bogaerts, PRACE Managing Director opened the PRACE booth #2033 with a welcome talk during the Exhibition Opening Gala on Monday 12 November. During the three days of the exhibition, more than 300 visitors visited the booth. The team had interesting talks with the attendees and explained to them the various PRACE activities such as Peer Review and Training.
For the second time PRACE offered a wide range of mini-presentations at the booth which attracted many visitors. The entire schedule of the talks including the links to the relevant slides, can be found here.

On Wednesday afternoon, a Birds of Feather session entitled “Big Data Challenge – How to Engage with Large Scale Facilities?” was organised with the involvement of PRACE (Europea), Pawsey (Australia), CHPC (South Africa) and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (United States). This session offered the attendees an opportunity to discuss the multi-layer requirements of Large Scale Facilities (LSF) for past, current and future projects.

For the first time SC18 organised a High-School Students Tour, which passed by the PRACE booth and was welcomed by two representatives of PRACE Training and the booth team on Wednesday afternoon.

A highlight was the presentation of the distinguished HPCwire Readers’ and Editors’ Choice Award, in the category “Best Use of HPC in Energy” to PRACE, Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), and GENCI, please read the entire Press Release here.

“Get in the Zone! #EuroZoneSC18” was the slogan for the first EuroZone initiative to increase the visibility of European organisations presents at the SC18 Exhibition to the attendees. All information was published online as well, please follow the link.

The PRACE booth team is looking forward to welcome the SC attendees again next year from 18 to 21 November 2019 in Denver, Colorado.
